What if you started a blog and nobody came?

Apparently it’s a common occurrence…especially if your audience is too busy playing golf, dancing at one of the Squares or eating out.  Or playing cards, or playing Mexican train, or dancing at Katie Belle’s.   Or, playing golf, taking a dance lesson,  or eating out.

ANYWAY, the point is, we’ve started a blog, but no one is taking our bait to “socialize”.   That’s ok.  We’re here if you are up late and have nothing better to do…why not find one of the posts and click on the comment link and tell us what you are thinking!

It’s HOT. And, it’s not even summer yet!

Did you catch the alligator photos on the slideshow of our front page?   Apparently this guy (gator) decided to take a walk on the “not” wild side and visited a few Villagers where they live.   If you found this blog page without going through Villages1.com, click here to see the front page slideshow and a couple of gator photos!  The story goes that with the water level so low, the gators are looking for … uh … something.  Or, it could just be mating season.  So, where are all the gator hot spots anyway?

Golf grips repaired…

One of the new sponsors or Villages1.com is Buy Golf Grips 4 Less…in fact, Keith took advantage of the service just this week. We saw an ordinary set of used golf clubs turn into a fancy set of clubs! All in less than 2 hours…

Keith never left the office, we kept working on the site and before we knew it, the doorbell was ringing and Keith’s clubs were ready for a round of golf.

We highly recommend Buy Golf Grips 4 Less…a mobile unit bringing new life to your set of clubs…

The Effort “behind” Christmas…

Living in The Villages offers a myriad of views into the mechanics of life.

Take Christmas for example…

I don’t believe I’ll ever be able to open a Christmas card without thinking of the effort behind my receipt of that single card. This is after watching what it takes to actually MAIL anything as a Villager, especially during “the season”, when there are visiting snowbirds from all points around the US.

I’ve seen people with disabilities that, at my “young” age of 58, would put me into a deep depression, who painstakingly make their way to the Spanish Springs Post Office simply to send a package or a handful of Christmas cards.

During this time of year, the driveway in front of the post office is a battlefield, full of land mines in the shape of golf carts, vehicles and trucks – everyone wanting to get where they are going, some of them will less time for getting there safely. Horns beeping, golf carts beeping, or a solid “laying on” of the horn, are the sounds that pierce the otherwise silence of the comings and goings of the Santas of The Villages.

The best part of watching the excitement of the pre-Christmas rush is seeing many people rush to the aid of the man or woman who is struggling to make it, even to the front door, of the post office. Granted, some people are lost in their own world, not paying attention to the person with diminished sight, or diminished gait, those folks who sometimes get lost in the hustle and bustle…but, for the most part, it brings a hope for all of us (if we are looking!) to see someone stop and help someone else who needs a hand.

Even with the LONG (and I mean LONG) lines, most people patiently wait, telling jokes, or relating stories about “how long the line was yesterday – when I THOUGHT I had finished all of the mailing”, etc., etc. And, in my opinion, if they are REALLY lucky, they get to witness people helping other people.

I wish there was some way to let the 7 year old grandchild, or the 13 year old teenager, even the 42 year old son or daughter, know what effort it takes their relative to reach out and wish them A Merry Christmas, during “the season” when snowbirds descend upon the area like Canadian Geese, when the lines are long, and the wait is long, and the traffic is heavy, etc., etc.

I believe there would be a LOT MORE thank you’s received after the holiday if we knew what the people who love us will do to show that they care.

“Ohio”… a State of Mind

This past Tuesday, in Ohio, 400,000 Middle Americans put feet on the ground, and soundly defeated the Koch Brothers and the millions of dollars that they had pored into that state, in an effort to step on the rights of the middle class.

The right to bargain was the war and the Good Guys beat the enemy soundly. What happened there in that battleground state, was that people stated what was on their mind. They did more than state it, they shouted it.

The rest of the country had better watch out, especially the states that have moved so deliberately to suppress the rights of the middle class. That includes Florida and Rick Scott.

When the People are moved to speak as they were in Ohio, and as they are in the 99% movement, the Status Quo has little chance of remaining Status Quo.

I’m from New York, but I love those Buckeyes.
